Director of Solution Engineering

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic engineering leader to build and lead our Solution Engineering function. The ideal candidate will be a player/coach who combines deep technical expertise with client delivery excellence, leading a team that designs, builds, and deploys AI-powered solutions on the Contextual platform while establishing best practices and scalable delivery methodologies.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development

• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of Solution Engineers
• Establish team processes, standards, and best practices for solution delivery
• Balance technical leadership with hands-on contribution on complex projects

Solution Design & Delivery

• Own end-to-end delivery of complex client solutions from discovery through deployment
• Design scalable solution architectures using the Contextual platform
• Translate business requirements into technical implementations across workflows, integrations, and applications

Technical Excellence

• Maintain deep expertise in the Contextual platform and low-code ecosystem
• Develop custom functionality using JavaScript and Python when needed
• Design integrations with external systems via APIs and custom connectors

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Product, Platform Engineering, and Design to inform platform roadmap
• Work with Sales and Customer Success on scoping and pre-sales technical support
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Process & Methodology

• Define solution patterns, reusable components, and delivery frameworks
• Establish quality assurance, testing standards, and deployment procedures
• Identify opportunities to improve delivery velocity through tooling and automation

Requirements: 

Experience & Background

• 8+ years in full-stack development, solutions engineering, or technical consulting
• 3+ years leading technical teams or projects in delivery/implementation
• Proven track record designing and deploying enterprise solutions at scale

Technical Skills

• Expert-level proficiency with low-code/no-code platforms (Power Platforms, N8n, OutSystems, or similar)
• Strong full-stack skills: JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, modern frameworks (React, Vue.js, Angular)
• Experience with APIs (REST, SOAP), database design (PostgreSQL, MongoDB), and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)

Leadership & Communication

• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and foster team growth
• Excellent communication with technical and business audiences
• Experience managing stakeholder expectations in complex client relationships

Problem-Solving & Adaptability

• Strong analytical capabilities with attention to detail
• Ability to learn new technologies and business domains rapidly
• Comfort with ambiguity and changing priorities in a growth-stage environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience with AI/ML integration, workflow orchestration, or business process automation
• Prior experience in consulting, professional services, or client-facing technical roles
• Familiarity with microservices, DevOps practices (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD), and Agile/Scrum
• Understanding of UI/UX principles and design systems
