We're assisting a wellfunded startup in the funeral industry with their search for an engineering lead. They provide contemporary funeral service reshaping an outdated, predatory industry. They are headquartered in NY but open to remote candidates from anywhere in the US.
What you'll do:
Working closely with the design and business leads, this role will focus on three major areas:
- Creating efficiencies in operations. While what they do is emotional for their customers, the work is highly logistical. Like any on-demand platform, scaling their operations and their 5-star customer experience requires close collaboration between their ops team and engineering.

Improving marketing and sales. This is scrappy, growth oriented engineering work, with a lot of room for experimentation in AI. Their standard is unmatched hospitality.

Developing their consumer facing platform. Have you ever seen a traditional obituary page? They have a vision for rethinking this experience from the ground up in a post-Partiful/PaperlessPost/Apple Pay world.
What you'll bring:
- 3+ years of experience as a full-stack, product-minded engineer
- 2+ years of experience in an early-stage startup environment or Founding Engineer at a startup.
- Experience building customer-facing or internal-facing UIs/products.
- Experience leading projects and small engineering teams, demonstrating the ability to break down projects and drive execution across different people.
- Experience as a former founder is a plus
- Strong experience in Python for backend development.
- Strong experience in JavaScript with Next.js framework for frontend web applications.
- Comfortable operating at all levels of the stack (full-stack).
- Experience with Supabase (Postgres), FastAPI microservices deployed on Fly.io, Inngest for async workloads, and Superblocks for internal tools is a plus.
