Description: 

  • Assure and improve product and process quality by researching new raw materials and equipment; designing testing methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.  

  • Coordinate with the production floor and other departments in conjunction with R&D lab to schedule production scale tests done in a timely and effective manner.  

  • Evaluate and improve manufacturing efficiency, by designing and conducting research activities, conferring with equipment vendors, and soliciting observations from operators.  

  • Develop or refine manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.  

  • Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.  

  • Assess processes taking measurements and interpreting data.  

  • Maintain a product and process data base  

  • Work with director of R&D and other department supervisors to get third party testing completed on new products or materials.   

  • Provides process documentation and operating instructions.  

  • Lead or be a member of a Kaizen team or Process Excellence Team to analyze and improve manufacturing cost and time constraints, as well as identifying and adapting best practices amongst departments and facilities.  

  • Perform other duties as assigned.   

Desired Skills:  

  • Proven work experience in process engineering.  

  • Excellent technical skills.  

  • Strong technical abilities to examine an organization’s operating procedure and make recommendations on improvements.  

  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations.  

  • Ability to work effectively without direct supervision  

  • Lean manufacturing background a plus  

  • Six Sigma certification or experience a plus  

  • Strong communication 

Physical Demands:    

  • Climbing, bending, standing, walking at a brisk pace 8+ hours a day, squatting, reaching, pushing, and pulling  

  • Lifting 80 pounds, either alone or with the assistance of another employee, in conformity with lifting techniques detailed in safety policies and training materials  

  • Dexterity with hands for use of tools  

  • Vision must be sufficient to see tools and equipment clearly  

  • Hearing with the use of ear protection  

Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in ceramic engineering, materials science engineering, or related industrial engineering fields.  

  • Relevant work experience in manufacturing is beneficial.  

  • 2 to 5 years’ experience in the ceramic tile industry is a plus.  

 

  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, and presentation skills  

 

  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint  

 

  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check, employment verification and drug screening  

 

  • Positive and Verifiable Work History  

 

  • Must follow safety guidelines and wear applicable safety equipment, e.g., safety glasses, side shields, approved safety shoes, and other PPE as needed
