Job Summary:
As an Engineer 1 in the Advanced Platforms group, you will work on technology development for exciting new products. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team solving complex problems, working on integration issues and investigating new research areas.
Responsibilities:
Hands-on testing, integration and optimization of systems including fluidics, hardware, firmware, software, and chemistry/reagents
Quickly fabricate and test prototyped microfluidic systems
Conduct system level testing, assay testing, image analysis
Translate benchtop assays to prototype microfluidic systems
Use standard lab instrumentation: fluorescence plate readers, fluorescence microscopes, thermocyclers, bioanalyzers, DNA sequencers, syringe pumps
Develop and implement experimental test plans
Record and analyze complex data sets
Develop creative solutions to troubleshoot issues
Willingness to be hands-on
Share and record experimental results for an audience with broad technical backgrounds at technical meetings
Requirements:
Multidisciplinary Problem-Solving: Ability to integrate concepts from physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering to develop innovative solutions.
Experimental and Analytical Expertise: Proficient in designing, building, and debugging electromechanical and fluidic systems, with hands-on experience in lab instrumentation and data acquisition.
Transport Phenomena Mastery: Solid foundation in mass, momentum, and heat transfer; skilled in applying scaling principles and dimensionless analysis.
Collaborative Leadership: Strong communication skills and team-oriented mindset; thrives in dynamic, fast-paced environments with a focus on innovation.
Nice to have:
Programming and Data Analysis: Proficient in Python for automating experiments, data analysis, and statistical modeling; experience with MATLAB and LabVIEW for instrument control is a plus
Microfabrication and Prototyping: Experience with 3D printing, laser cutting, injection molding, profilometry, and cleanroom processes for microfluidic systems development is a plus.
Biological Systems and Assays: Hands-on experience with sequencing technologies, library preparation, PCR, and working in BSL-2 environments with cells and tissues would be an asset but not required.
Design and Process Control: Competent in CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks), tolerance analysis, process design, and control systems is a plus.

The estimated base salary range for the Engineer 1 - Development role based in the United States of America is: $67,000 - $100,600. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
