The Facilities Engineer provides technical expertise and hands-on support for the operation, maintenance, and improvement of GMP-compliant facilities and critical utility systems. This role combines engineering analysis with practical execution to ensure reliability, efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The Facilities Engineer collaborates with internal teams and external vendors to maintain facility readiness for production and inspections, while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Job Requirements
- Develop and implement facility maintenance strategies, including preventive and predictive programs, while performing routine inspections and maintenance on critical utilities (HVAC, WFI, RODI, Clean Steam, compressed air) and building infrastructure.
- Execute preventive and corrective maintenance tasks per SOPs and CMMS schedules, ensuring accurate documentation for all activities, deviations, CAPAs, and change controls.
- Provide engineering support for installation, calibration, commissioning, and qualification of equipment and systems; lead or assist in capital projects including design review, feasibility studies, and turnover documentation.
- Manage vendor relationships, contracts, and service level agreements; coordinate repairs and service calls, verifying compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with cGMP, OSHA, EPA, and local regulations; act as a technical resource during audits and inspections.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, safety manuals, and training programs for facility operations; monitor KPIs for reliability, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance, reporting to management.
- Respond promptly to alarms and emergency situations, applying engineering judgment to resolve issues effectively.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and cost reduction, leveraging data-driven analysis and best practices.
- Prepare and manage budgets for facilities and utilities as required.
Education & Experience
- BS in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering (or related field).
- 5–7 years of experience in facilities engineering or maintenance within GMP/biotech or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Experience with cleanroom design and critical utility systems preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of GMP requirements and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in CMMS and MS Office applications.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
