POSITION OVERVIEW
Summary: R. M Lucas Company headquartered in Alsip, Illinois is looking for A Quality Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the consistent quality of products through effective oversight of plant operations and supplier performance. This individual will focus on driving continuous improvement in manufacturing processes, raw material quality, and adherence to industry and company standards. The role involves close collaboration with production, supply chain, sales, R&D teams at a mid-size roof coatings manufacturer specializing in batch production of coatings, adhesives, and sealants.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Monitor and analyze production processes to identify quality trends, deviations, and opportunities for improvement.
· Develop and implement quality control procedures to ensure compliance with internal specifications and industry standards (e.g., ASTM, UL, FM).
· Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions (RCA/CA) for quality issues identified during production.
· Conduct audits of batch production processes to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
· Work with production teams to implement process control measures that enhance product consistency and reduce variability.
· Evaluate and qualify new suppliers to ensure their materials meet company standards.
· Conduct regular audits of suppliers to verify compliance with agreed-upon quality requirements.
· Collaborate with suppliers to address raw material defects and implement corrective actions.
· Lead or support continuous improvement projects aimed at enhancing product quality and operational efficiency.
· Apply Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to identify and eliminate waste in production processes.
· Drive initiatives to reduce customer complaints and non-conforming product.
· Investigate customer complaints and draft up report findings and collaborate with the Sales Team to deliver the results.
· Conduct quality testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.
· Ensure all quality data is accurately recorded, analyzed, and maintained in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
· Create and revise work instructions, control plans, and quality documentation to reflect updated standards and practices.
· Act as a liaison between the quality department and production, R&D, and supply chain teams.
· Train plant personnel on quality procedures, standards, and best practices.
· Provide regular reports on quality performance, metrics, and project progress to senior management.
Qualifications:
· Knowledge of quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and regulatory standards relevant to the industry.
· Proficiency in statistical process control (SPC), quality tools (e.g., FMEA, control charts), and root cause analysis techniques.
· Familiarity with materials testing equipment and methods (e.g., viscosity, adhesion, and tensile testing).
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with a collaborative mindset.
· Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Education/Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in quality or engineering, preferably in the coatings, adhesives, or sealants industry or another batch manufacturing environment.
· Experience with supplier quality management and plant operations is highly desired.
Math Ability:
· Understanding of basic arithmetic, algebra, and statistics required.
Computer Skills:
· Microsoft office Suite Products, Google Sheets, Internet, E-mail applications
· SQL server or database management experience highly desired
· Computer proficiency required
Certificates and Licenses:
· ASQ Certified Quality Engineer highly desired

Compensation & Benefit Information:
Base Salary Range from $71k/year to $85k/year
