This position will be located in Phoenix, AZ (Deer Valley) within the Flight Controls Center of Excellence (FCCoE). The FCCoE develops state-of-the-art flight controls for military, air transport, regional, and business aircraft.
The primary responsibilities of the position are developing the system level requirements, system level verification, and execution of formal test procedures for electronic flight controls applications. The position also requires effective communication and coordination with the customer’s engineering departments. The desired candidate will have experience in the development of avionics applications and safety-critical system development, including:
• Understanding customer requirements
• Investigation and review of customer issues and desired enhancements.
• Developing and maintaining system software requirements
• Supporting the software development team
• Checkout and verification of the system functions in the laboratory
• Aircraft interface requirement definition
• Model-based system software development (MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow tools)
• Hardware/software integration
• Avionics and flight controls certification requirements
• Planning and tracking of development tasks, status reporting
• Producing formal engineering communications (Engineering Coordination Memos)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required to interface with the customer, certification agencies, third party suppliers, global resources, and with peers such as hardware and software engineers.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering or related discipline
• 5 years experience with a focus in avionics systems development and certification
• Must be a US Citizen or permanent resident due to export control requirements
Additional Qualifications:
• Master of Science degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Mechanical, or Systems Engineering preferred
• Integration and test experience in lab or flight test environments a plus
• Ability to define, investigate and solve complex technical problems within schedule, budget and resource constraints
• Experience with Mathworks MATLAB/Simulink and/or MATLAB/Stateflow tools preferred
• Experience with the design of electrical hardware and / or software for control products for the aerospace industry desired; examples include programmable logic controllers, embedded control
systems, and Integrated Modular Avionics
• Experience with the design and development of Safety Critical products that meet ARP4754, DO-178B, for Design Assurance Level A, and DO-160 preferred
• Experience in all phases of system, hardware and/or software lifecycle development from concept to sustaining engineering a plus
• Experience working in a technical position that interfaces with customers as well as internal and external suppliers preferred
• Technical background in avionics, particularly Autoflight systems
• Experience using Configuration Management and Change Control systems such as ClearCase/ClearQuest desired
